January Announcements

Kindergarten-2nd grade
Congratulations on an amazing performance for the Christmas Pageant!  I'm so proud of each student for remembering to smile, to sing with joy, and to use their hand motions.

This month, we are continuing to learn about whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes as well as our new whole, half, quarter, and eighth RESTS (periods of silence).  Students will practice drawing rests in addition to clapping rhythms on the pocketchart and writing rhythms of their own.
Grandparents' Tea is being hosted during school hours on Friday, January 29th.  After band performs, each class will be singing a song for the guests.  Our theme this year is: "Singing in Different Weather."
Please encourage your student to share their song with you!!

3rd-5th grade
Congratulations on a well executed performance for the Christmas Pageant!  It's incredible what students are capable of with such dedication and practice.

This month, we are continuing to learn about the note values of whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes while adding each note's matching rest.  Also, students will be able to identify the names of all treble clef notes.

Middle School
Congratulations on the volume of sound achieved in the Christmas Pageant this year!  I look forward for each of you to cultivate more confidence in your musical abilities before the Spring Concert.

This month, we are reviewing the rhythmic values of whole, dotted half, half, quarter, and eighth notes AND rests.  Each student will be able to identify treble clef notes by their letter name.  We will be beginning to learn about the "Key of C."  More specifically, students will be able to identify and write the key signature (no sharps or flats), an ascending scale, and the triads of C major fluently.  Students will also be composing a piece for their classmates to perform on percussion instruments in upcoming weeks.
