Student Support
Before Care and Extended Day Program
The Before Care and Extended Day Program is offered for
students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 from 7:30-8
A.M. and from 3-6 P.M. to accommodate the work schedules
of our parents/guardians. On half-day dismissals, the
afternoon program runs from 12:30-6 P.M. There is no
Extended Day before holidays / long-weekends. There is
an extra fee charged for these services. The before
school program is on a “drop-in” basis. Board games, art
supplies, and books are offered for the students. For
the Extended Day program, parents/guardians may choose
either a two or three hour program for their
child/children. This program has a scheduled snack time,
supervised homework time,
gym and/or outdoor play time, and quiet time for
listening to and reading books. On Fridays, special
activities are offered. Some examples are: talent shows,
egg drop contest, paper airplane contests, spelling
bees, and improv comedy games.
Field Trips
Educational field trips for all grade levels are
planned throughout the year. Transportation is provided
by chartered buses. Supervision is provided by teachers
and approved parent/guardian volunteers. Some of our
traditional field trips are Gettysburg, Skyline Caverns,
and the Pumpkin Patch.
Food Services
Annunciation students bring their lunch and eat in
their homerooms. Parents/guardians may order 2% milk in
September for the school year. On Thursdays, Pizza Day,
students may purchase a slice of pizza and a soda. All
students have a mid-morning snack time.
Health Service
The school secretary takes care of all minor injuries
and the dispensing of prescription medicine, only with
the written permission of the parent/guardian. In the
case of serious accidents requiring hospital care, the
child is taken to the nearest hospital, either Sibley
Memorial Hospital or Georgetown Hospital and met there
by his or her parents/guardians. No hospital care may be
given without the parent’s/guardian’s consent.
Guidance and Resource
There is a Guidance Counselor and a Resource Teacher
on staff at Annunciation. The Guidance Counselor
provides counseling to individuals and groups regarding
situational and developmental issues. The Counselor also
offers extra classes in study skills and time management
and is available to work with parents/guardians and to
offer outside referrals for additional therapy. The
Resource Teacher meets with students and groups of
students who require extra academic help. The Resource
Teacher is the testing chair for Archdiocesan
standardized tests and for ACCESS for ELL’s at
Annunciation. Our Resources Teacher consults with
teachers on reading needs and initiatives.
Transportation
Annunciation students walk, come by public
transportation, or are driven to school by
parents/guardians. Dismissal and car pickup are
supervised by teachers and the Safety Patrol. |
